This year’s Ivy League joint notification date is Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. Eastern time. The deadline for candidate responses has been extended to Monday, May 3. Because of the increased number of applications received by the League and our commitment to thoroughly reviewing all candidates, the deadline has been pushed back. Students and families should rest assured that any requests for additional extensions that may be necessitated by financial assistance determinations will be considered. The Ivy moratorium will commence at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 4 and end at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, the day after the notification date.
What is the definition of a certificate program?
Students may complement their work in their departmental concentrations with concentrated study in another, often interdisciplinary, field through “certificates of proficiency.” In many ways, certificate programs are similar to minors offered at other universities.
What role do certificate programs play in the classroom?
Most certificate programs include required courses as well as a senior thesis or other significant independent project. Students should declare their interest in a certificate program early in their academic careers due to the stringent requirements.

A concentrated, organized, and interrelated set of courses that enhances the undergraduate experience in an emerging academic area, addresses a professional development need, or offers “step-up” preparation for a degree program is known as an undergraduate certificate. Previously approved certificates with fewer units are exempt from these requirements unless the offering unit suggests a certificate modification, in which case all existing unit standards and policies must be met.
