With this entry-level course, you can jumpstart your greenkeeping career. This certification is for people who want to work in the sports turf industry, are apprentices, or need their skills to be recognized. This course will provide you with the basic skills needed to maintain turf grass surfaces in a variety of sports facilities. The number of people working as greenkeepers is increasing rapidly, according to the Australian Government’s Job Outlook service. They estimate that over the next five years, there will be around 14,000 job openings in this field. Students will learn about occupational health and safety, turf establishment and maintenance, irrigation systems, and the operation of specialized equipment while taking this course. You’ll also learn about plant nutrition, pest management, how to build turf playing surfaces, and how to work in an environmentally friendly manner. The hands-on training you’ll receive will ensure that you have job-ready skills and practices from the start. After completing this course, you will have the skills to either start a career in the industry or advance your current one.

Advanced turf certificate

The TMSC is Canada’s most popular turfgrass management certificate. This four-week program has been training and preparing students of all ages, experience levels, and industry industries for over 50 years. Most major turf professional associations accept this certification, and it has become world renowned for its simple but comprehensive educational curriculum. If you are interested in participating in the program, we recommend that you ask about registration as soon as possible because it fills up quickly each year.
Turfgrass management is a fast-growing industry in Canada and around the world. The Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management (ADTM) is Canada’s premier turfgrass management program, with a focused curriculum that equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in this competitive industry.
The Guelph Turfgrass Institute’s collaborative resources, which include University of Guelph faculty and staff, industry experts, and the Institute’s grounds, workshop, and laboratory equipment, are used in this two-year (four semester) program. Students gain a diverse range of experience and knowledge by combining practical and scientific research with a mandatory summer work semester. The Diploma in Turfgrass Management is only available at the Guelph campus and prepares students for a variety of careers in golf course management, lawn care, sports field management, parks management, sod production, and related supply and service industries, among others.

Winter School is a fantastic option for practitioners who want to broaden their knowledge and skills. The program is also ideal for those who want to advance in their careers but can’t commit to a two- or four-year program, as well as career changers looking to build a strong foundation for a career in turf management.
Students should have a simple knowledge of online learning and have access to a computer or other device with a high-speed internet connection, working speakers and microphone or headset, and, if needed, a webcam (optional). English language proficiency is highly recommended to ensure success at Winter School.
Please note that while attendees from all over the world are welcome to join us for this virtual course, and some of the information presented will be broadly applicable, much of the information presented will be geared toward grasses that adapt to the cool season.
