The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program prepares students to treat patients aged 13 and up in hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, and short-term stay settings for brief but serious episodes of sickness, injury, or trauma.

The goal of the post-research master’s program is to provide nurses with a master’s degree in nursing with an educational path to specialization in a field other than their master’s or PhD program. The program is intended to help master’s-prepared nurses who are planning a role expansion or change improve or expand their clinical or managerial skills.
Based on an assessment of the student’s previous academic work and a gap analysis of courses/experiences required to qualify for advanced practice certification in the student’s desired specialty, the specialty director creates an individualized program of studies for each PMC student. The student’s course of study will include enough didactic and clinical experiences to enable him or her to master the competencies and meet the requirements for national certification in the population-focused area of practice.
