Scottsdale Community College’s Scottsdale Teacher Education Partnership (STEP) Post-Baccalaureate teacher certification programs are for students with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline who want to become accredited teachers in grades K through 8.
The Traditional Pathway is designed for candidates who want to work closely with master mentor teachers in the classroom while completing course work. This one-year cohort is intended as a field-based preparation program that encourages students to learn to teach by working in elementary and middle school classrooms alongside teachers and students. STEP students work as interns in a variety of school districts throughout the valley.
The Teacher in Residence (TIR) Pathway is designed for candidates who have previously substitute taught or worked as a paraprofessional and are now ready to teach. Candidates will work full-time in a classroom while completing the required education courses for certification in this one-year cohort. STEP at SCC works with school districts all over the valley. Teachers on the TIR track must work in a normal K-8 classroom setting.

The teacher licensure program at North Park University will prepare you for a career as a licensed teacher, regardless of your background or prior experience. This program is for people who have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university who want to teach without having to get a master’s degree. Not only will you graduate with significant classroom experience and a respected North Park credential, but you’ll also be licensed as a teacher for one of the following subjects:
As soon as you’ve been accepted, you’ll meet with a School of Education advisor to determine the best course and clinical experience sequence for you to complete the criteria for your desired Illinois teaching license. Depending on your undergraduate major and chosen teaching certificate/license, your program will include teacher preparation courses as well as any requirements you need to complete your desired endorsement, concentration, or academic content area.
This face-to-face program, administered by the Center for Educator Preparation, allows students with a previous bachelor’s degree to receive a license to teach in Colorado, regardless of whether the degree is in the same field as the field in which they want to teach. It’s possible that you’ll need to take some prerequisite content classes.
Students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree in the field in which they plan to teach will gain licensure only through endorsement flexibility. This is done through the educator licensing program, and students interested in pursuing a licensure-only path should speak with a content area adviser first.
