Mining certificate

The mining engineering certificate program at the university

The Certification program is administered by the Division of Mineral Mining for people who work in mineral mines and whose jobs require them to be competent, skilled, and knowledgeable in order to perform consistently and safely. DMM provides the following certifications:
In addition, beginning January 1, 1997, all miners must have General Mineral Miner Certification (GMM). GMM certification is available through authorized GMM instructors (certified mine foreman, MSHA certified Part 48 instructors, or DMM-approved instructors) or online.
You can look up current certifications by searching a person’s last name and date of birth (zip code may be included in the search) using the Mineral Miner Certification Search tool, or you can call us at (434) 951-6316 to inquire about an individual’s certification status.
Most certifications have specific minimum requirements, such as a certain number of years of experience and additional occupational training, such as First Aid or Journeyman certification. Work experience criteria can be found here.
