Md certificate of good standing

Gmc registration explained.

Businesses in Maryland have been receiving a letter titled “2020 Certificate of Good Standing Request Form” that requests a fee in exchange for a letter of good standing with a “official seal of the Secretary of State,” according to the Office of the Attorney General. This is a SCAM mailing. In late 2019, the same scam letter was circulated.
In exchange for a “elective Maryland Certificate of Good Standing,” the scam letter instructs the recipient to send a check or money order to an entity called “MD Certificate Service” in Annapolis, MD. The letter goes to great lengths to appear official, with a “document number” and a barcode, as well as a 1-855-222-3322 customer service phone number.
In Maryland, certain businesses may have a certificate of good standing, but not from the Secretary of State. For a small fee, the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation will issue an official certificate of good standing.
Do not give any money to this scammer if you get this letter. The Maryland Secretary of State, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov, and the United States Postal Inspection Service at www.uspis.gov or 1-877-876-2455 are all places where you can report the letter.

A company must be in good standing with the Department of Assessments and Taxation in order to qualify for most government aid programs and private loans (SDAT). If your company has fallen out of good standing, SDAT has put together a checklist to help you get back on track so you can get the assistance you need. Visit the SDAT website for more information.
The Personal Property Return (Form 1) is used to account for any and all personal property (computers, furniture, machinery and equipment, and so on) that a company may use to conduct business in a given year. The SDAT website has Form 1 available, and it can also be filed online via Maryland Business Express.
Information on gross sales from the previous year is required in Section III. If a business does not own any personal property but still makes sales, it must explain how sales were made without using personal property.

A Maryland Good Standing Certificate (Maryland Certificate of Existence) is a one-page document that resembles a letter and bears the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation’s seal and signature.
“I, Secretary of State Name, OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ASSESSMENTS AND TAXATION OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, DO HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THE DEPARTMENT, BY STATE LAWS, IS THE CUSTODIAN OF THE RECORDS OF THIS STATE RELATING TO THE FORFEITURE OR SUSPENSION OF CORPORATIONS, OR THE RIGHTS OF CORPORATIONS TO TRANSACT BUSINESS IN THIS ST
