According to Indiana Administrative Code 45 2.2-5-10, all Indiana manufacturers are eligible for sales tax exemptions on purchases of manufacturing machinery, tools, and equipment that are “directly used” in the production, manufacture, fabrication, assembly, extraction, mining, processing, refining, or finishing of tangible personal property. Manufacturing machinery, tools, and equipment are considered “directly used” in Indiana if they have an immediate impact on the tangible personal property being processed. If manufacturing machines, tools, and equipment are a “important and integral” part of an integrated production process, they have an immediate impact on the tangible personal property being processed. When work-in-process materials are carried into the manufacturing process, the integrated production process for manufacturers begins and ends with the product being prepared for sale. Property incorporated as a part of the final product and property consumed that is directly used in the manufacturing process are also exempt from Indiana sales tax. The experienced sales tax consultants at Agile Consulting Group will assist manufacturers in taking advantage of this Indiana sales tax exemption.
