This course will allow you to improve your riding or stud work skills while also learning about equine theory. This course is less academic and more practical than some of the others.
Horse grooming, trimming and plaiting, horse tack and clothes, feeding and watering horses, introduction to lunging, horse handling, work-related experience, and riding horses are all skills that can be learned. This is not an exhaustive list. Throughout your course, you will improve your English and math skills, which will increase your employability.
Students can learn more about the entry requirements for this course by reading the information below.
Please keep in mind:
Other equine qualifications, such as Pony Club C+ and above or British Horse Society Stage 1 qualifications, will be considered.
A work placement in the horse industry must be completed for a minimum of 150 hours. Our Industrial Liaison Officer will assist you in locating a suitable placement and will pay you a visit to track your progress. This is on top of yard responsibilities at the Equine Training and Development Centre and Lordships Stud, which ensure that your training is consistent and meets University College and awarding body requirements.

The Essential Horse Knowledge Certificate (which replaces the Horse Owners Certificates) is a “classroom”-based certificate that teaches you the fundamentals of horse care. To participate, no practical or ridden work or experience is required.
This certificate is available in two levels: entry level and level one, and it is appropriate for learners of all ages, including horse owners and their parents. However, we insist that children be at least 12 years old. You can enter at either level, but we suggest starting at Entry Level if you are new to horses or have limited background experience.
