You will develop the field, technical, and analytical skills necessary for successful careers in hydro- and environmental geology as a student in Western Michigan University’s certificate program in hydrogeology. Geology courses prepare students for a variety of careers, including geology, STEM education, public policy, and environmental risk assessment. Exams for professional geologists include geology coursework as well as knowledge of fundamental geological principles and their applications. Individuals can earn a Certificate in Geological Sciences by completing academic coursework in geological sciences that is applicable to environmental policy and law, resource economics, earth science education, regional planning, construction, and other related fields. Coursework for the Professional Geologist Licensure Exam is included in the Certificate in Geological Sciences program (PG). Non-UF students can earn a Certificate in Geological Sciences through distance learning, and it requires a minimum of 16 credits in geology courses. Students intending to sit for the professional geologist exam on a non-degree seeking basis will have the option of taking additional courses beyond those needed for the Certificate in Geological Sciences to meet the minimum of 30 credit hours necessary to sit for the exam. The graduate certificate can be earned as a stand-alone certificate, in conjunction with an appropriate graduate degree that the student is pursuing at the same time, or as a prerequisite for enrolling in the full PSM-EG program.
