Importers will no longer be required to complete the formal “Certificate of Origin” document required under NAFTA under the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA). You can, however, use a Certificate of Origin format if you choose.
The new “Certification of Origin” under the USMCA has no set format; it can be completed by the exporter, producer, or importer of the goods, and it can be backed up with common documents like invoices.

When the selling price for the goods sold covers all “Costs, Insurance, and Freight,” this abbreviation is used in some foreign sales contracts. This means that the seller arranges and pays for all costs associated with transporting goods from their point of export to a specified point of import. The term “CIF value” is used in trade statistics to describe how all figures for imports and exports are computed, regardless of the nature of individual transactions.
This is a Latin term that is a condensed version of the phrase “de minimis non curat lex,” which means “the law is unconcerned about minor matters.” It is often thought to be more effective to waive minor duties and taxes rather than collect them.
A seaport, airport, warehouse, or any other designated area within a country that is considered to be outside of its customs territory. Importers may thus bring goods from other countries into these regions without having to pay customs duties or taxes. This is still in the process of being processed, transshipped, or re-exported. As of January 1, 2021, the United Kingdom will no longer be a member of the European Union, which means that when goods are imported from the United Kingdom, a customs declaration must be filed. This declaration is also used to determine any import tariffs and VAT on imports. You may incur extra costs as a result of this. Keep in mind that after January 1, 2021, the total cost of importing goods from the United Kingdom will be considerably higher. Prior to delivery, you must pay DHL the import duties and VAT. If the sender includes your mobile phone number in the shipment data, you will receive an SMS payment request from DHL Express. Your goods will be delivered quickly if you pay promptly. (Note that the airwaybill / AWB number of your shipment is always included in a DHL Express payment request for VAT / import duties.) Did you get an SMS that didn’t include an airwaybill / AWB number? Do not click something and report phishing or fraud to us.)
Regardless of declared value, dutiable shipments to people (Personal) in Abu Dhabi must be approved by the relevant government statutory authorities (Customs, Health, Security, Municipality, etc.). The receiver is responsible for obtaining these approvals. DHL is unable to obtain approvals on the receiver’s behalf. Importers must be registered with Abu Dhabi Customs and have an importers code for shipments worth more than US$ 270. To complete a registration and receive a one-year importers code, the importer must provide a copy of their Emirates ID or passport with a valid UAE resident visa page, as well as a fee of AED100. In the event that additional documents are needed, DHL will contact the recipient.
Please ensure that a customs broker is appointed on the air waybill for temporary imports of dutiable shipments to exhibitions and trade fairs to prevent any delays and service effect to the customer. DHL cannot execute temporary import formalities on behalf of customers in terms of deposit payment and acting as an IOR. To make it easier to contact the receiver, complete delivery addresses and contact names/mail/phone numbers must be included on all paperwork.
