How to get into database administration

Database technology is used in the industry to store, retrieve, and present data in a personalized and user-friendly format. The Database Administrator (DBA) program will improve your understanding of relational database design, system performance, backup and recovery, and database security.
You’ll learn how to use Oracle tools on Windows and Linux to master the technical aspects of database administration. You’ll also learn how to use and maintain existing relational databases before applying your knowledge to the design and implementation of new databases that meet user needs.
Database Administrator students who have previous experience with relational databases (for example, Microsoft Access) and operating systems (for example, Linux/ Unix, Windows) are more likely to succeed.
The program covers core Oracle Education courses required to challenge the Oracle Certified Professional Database Administrator designation and is offered in conjunction with the Oracle Workforce Development Program.

Terms you need to know in database administration

The Database Certificate will either prepare students for entry-level database programming and design positions or offer basic database programming and design skills to existing practitioners.
ACDV 101 – Academic Development: Transitioning to College is required for credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions). This one-credit course is intended for first-year students at CCBC. For the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived, students must provide official transcripts from an accredited institution demonstrating successful completion of college coursework.

The Certificate Program offers courses that are similar to those offered in the degree programs, but there are no academic classes in these curricula. If a student begins their studies as a certificate student and later decides to pursue a degree program, the certificate classes will easily transfer to the degree program.
This Level 1 Workforce Certificate can be earned in a variety of ways, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes. Rather than a 16-week term, most of the courses are offered in an 8-week format. The program is intended to be completed in two semesters (32 weeks) and includes the following proposed pathway or course of study.
Capstone Requirement: To fulfill the capstone requirement, students must pass a rigorous program exam with a score of 70% or higher. The Division Chair must schedule the exam.
