This online certificate program is intended to enhance an individual’s skills and capacity to help students in navigating the college admissions process. Participants are encouraged to explore and reflect on past experiences during the course of study, as well as to apply new knowledge gained from course offerings in future practice. The coursework focuses on basic themes in college counseling and college access, allowing students to expand their knowledge, learn new student engagement strategies, and generally broaden their counseling skills and knowledge. Individuals with less than three years of college access counseling experience should pursue this certificate. The aim of the courses is to teach participants the fundamentals of the college admissions/advising process.
The Capstone course is the last course in the program. Candidates create an ePortfolio to demonstrate their work and understanding of college counseling services and support. The Capstone course must be completed in order to receive the College Access Counseling Certificate.

Students and families who are unfamiliar with the college application and financial assistance process often become lost among forms, deadlines, and higher education jargon. The UC San Diego Extension Program in College Counseling is intended to provide participants with the most up-to-date college counseling methods while also emphasizing the personal aspect of working with families during one of life’s most important transitional periods. The program’s professional value and personal meaning are enhanced by the program’s skilled and passionate instructors.
This online course is intended to address the most current and important topics in college counseling. Participants will learn the fundamentals of establishing a college counseling operation that offers excellent service to college-bound students. In an online environment, courses cover timely comprehensive topics related to assisting students in making the transition to college.
The Specialized Certificate in College Counseling is developed and taught by experts in the field who are currently working. Our teachers have extensive College Counseling experience and place a strong emphasis on the development of practical skills. Their expertise and experience ensure that our program remains current in the field.

Certificate program in college admissions and career

Graduates of this program may help licensed professional counselors by providing paraprofessional counseling. Students will not be prepared to work as professional counselors after completing the certificate program. Additional courses, training, and licensure will be required to work in professional counseling through a master’s degree program.
All interested students are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, but they may be admitted provisionally based on associated graduate classes in the fields of education, human services, or training and development, and, finally, by earning at least a “B” (3.0) average in the first GCCE class.
Students will begin the one-year program in Summer II (end of June) and will have one year to complete the four required classes. These credits may be transferable to a master’s degree program in counseling if you choose to pursue one.
