Remarks: Since 1867, the state office has kept records of births that have occurred and been filed with the state. Some of the records were not filed with the state (particularly pre-1906 births). Since June 1, 1997, Affidavit of Parentage records have been on file in the Central Paternity Registry and can be ordered from the State Office. Prior to that date, records would have to be obtained from the court where they were originally filed.
Make your personal check or money order payable to the State of Michigan. The search and first authenticated copy of any birth or Affidavit of Parentage record costs $34.00. Senior Citizens aged 65 and up who request their own birth record ($14.00) are an exception. Each additional copy of a record ordered at the same time costs $16.00.
