Please keep in mind that if you close your account, we won’t be able to change your banking information on your return. The Minnesota Department of Revenue will give you a paper check if your direct deposit fails because you closed your account.
If your address changes after you choose to receive your refund by check, please contact us as soon as possible to prevent delays. If you reported your address change to the US Postal Service, your check will be forwarded to you if we have already mailed it to you.
The checks for property tax refunds are also valid for two years. We are unable to reissue an expired property tax refund check. Only if you can show that circumstances beyond your control (“reasonable cause”) prevented you from depositing or cashing your refund check will you be eligible for a refund.
You may ask us to reissue your property tax refund check for up to five years after the original check date if you can show reasonable cause. Send your letter of request, as well as any supporting documents, to the above-mentioned address.

The amount of property tax the renter would have paid that year is the result of the calculation.
What is the purpose of a certificate of rent paid?
Your landlord must provide you with a completed Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP)…. The CRP shows how much rent you paid and how much went to property taxes in the previous year. When applying for a Renter’s Property Tax Refund, you must include a CRP. By January, your landlord must provide you with a completed CRP. How do I complete the CRP form? Divide the total amount of property tax paid on the facility by the number of rental units.

2019 mn crp forms are due by jan 31, 2020

Complete disclosure: I’m a complete moron. So, in 2015, I was filing my taxes for the first time, and I made the mistake of using TaxAct (or a similar service) instead of H&R Block. I filed my state and federal taxes, but I didn’t know I had to physically mail my CRP in order to receive my refund. I’d been trying to figure out why my rent return (just over $1000) hadn’t arrived since September 2015, and only recently discovered that I was supposed to mail it in myself. Is there any way to file my CRP retroactively so that I can get that money, or am I completely screwed? 4 responses 81 percent upvoted by sharesavehidereport This discussion has been closed. Only help from Minnesota’s Housing Support program (formerly known as Group Residential Housing or GRH) paid directly to the landlord on your client’s behalf is included on line B of the CRP. Low-income seniors and adults with disabilities can receive room and board through Minnesota’s Housing Support program. Other types of housing assistance, such as Section 8, are being incorrectly added to line B.
Provide your customer with our two handouts if you changed the amount on line B of the CRP. The note titled “Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP) Line B Correction – for Renters” should be kept by your client, while the other note should be given to their landlord.
Explain that you filed and submitted your clients’ returns using the information they supplied, but that they should give their landlord the landlord note and request a corrected 2019 CRP. If your client receives a corrected CRP from the landlord, advise them to keep it for their records.
Provide them with a copy of the two handouts that are attached. Tell your client to keep the “Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP) Line B Correction – for Renters” handout and give the other to their landlord. They are not required to file an amended return. If we need additional information, we may contact your client.
