Catering is a demanding profession; workers must provide high-quality food service to new and returning customers — many of whom have dietary needs and/or food allergies — at remote locations such as hotels, businesses, and homes. Catered events necessitate not only high-quality food service, but also a high level of organization as managers coordinate with different staff to ensure a smooth presentation.
To advance their careers or expand their businesses, many food service professionals enroll in accredited online certificate programs in catering. Event presentation, sanitation practices, service personnel management, culinary skills in baking and pastry, menu planning, and sales and marketing are all covered in these programs.
Many successful caterers begin their careers by catering parties for friends using their own recipes and cookware. Referrals and repeat business are common as word of their catering abilities spreads. They amass a savings account that can be used for marketing and training. Others begin their careers in restaurants and hotels. They hone their culinary skills and learn how to present food in appealing ways.
