The truth about your u.s. and canadian birth

Welcome to the world, baby! The Office of the Registrar General processes ALL birth registrations for births that occurred after March 30th, 2009 at 12:00 midnight. The Royal Victoria Hospital or an appropriate health professional provides documentation to the child’s parent(s) at the time of birth.
Both applicants must have a current passport (with a photo) or an original birth certificate, as well as one piece of photo identification (driver’s license, health card, etc.). Parental consent is required for applicants who are 16 or 17 years old. There are no requirements for medical certificates, residency, or citizenship. The cost of obtaining a license is $145. (cash, money order, certified cheque, VISA, MasterCard, debit card). A marriage license is valid for three (3) months from the date of issue and can be used anywhere in Ontario. Applicants are urged to call 705-726-4242 to schedule an appointment for the issuance of their marriage license.
The original or court validated copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce must be submitted if a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled within Canada. A divorce decree is unacceptably harsh. The court that granted the divorce will provide certified copies. Photocopies will not be accepted, and all documents will be returned to the sender. Additional forms must be completed if the divorce was granted outside of Canada. For more information, please call 705-726-4242.
